The City of South Charleston was not officially chartered until 1919, but, its existence was recorded as far back as 1782. The Sanitary Board was established in 1954 under Mayor Joseph Londeree. The Sanitary Board was designed in 1948 and formed in phases beginning in 1954 and completed in 1958. In 1961 Union Carbide and the City of South Charleston joined forces to construct the Wastewater Treatment Plant which was completed in 1962. The Sanitary Board began providing sanitary sewer services for the Green Valley Community Public Service District in November 1981. |
